Google Cloud Quotas Command Line Interface (CLI)
November 2023
Context
Cloud Quotas aims to simplify and automate the management of quotas by introducing Cloud Quotas CLI. It allowed them to look up quota and request adjustments without having to go to the cloud console.
Overview
The main purpose of the study was to the understand users perception of proposed commands, and discoverability of proposed commands. As well as understand how users perceive error handling, and trouble shooting based on error messages.
Method
Participants used the ‘alpha build’ CLI to perform common quota CUJ tasks. I decided to do a Usability Study to evaluate the alpha build, since it was built out and the commands worked we could thoroughly evaluate how users used the build.
Task 1: Triage quota
Provided participants the project and gcloud alpha quotas —help. Wanted participants to identify the quota limit value and increase quota by using commands.
Task 2: Manage quota
Participants checked on the status of the quota increase and need to identify if the status.
Task 3: Error Handling
Showed participants screen shots of possible error messages, and asked how they would troubleshoot and fix the problem based on the message.
Result
Identified participants didn’t follow happy path, and areas of improvements to clear up of verbiage. As well as helped map out how participants work and use command flows to stakeholders. Findings helped improve UX writing, and show areas of improvement before the GA launch.
